Abstract

1,076,198. Moulding processes; patterns. MEEHANITE METAL CORPORATION. Feb. 8, 1966, No. 5492/66. Heading B3F. A pattern 1 of plastics material, e.g. of expanded polystyrene or polyethylene, is removed from a sand mould 4 by directing a stream of gas such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen or argon at a temperature above 500‹ F. on to the material to vaporize it before pouring metal into the resulting cavity. An ingate 3, risers 2 and vent 10 may be formed by wooden forms (to be withdrawn immediately after ramming the sand) or by polystyrene forms (to be consumed with the main pattern).
