Abstract

1,075,913. Sail holding devices. R. C. DUNGAN. March 7, 1966 [Oct. 18, 1965], No. 9899/66. Heading B7V. A sail holding and setting device for a vessel having rigging (stay 11, Figs. not shown) for supporting a fixed edge of a sail provided with attachment means (snap hooks 17) to the rigging in set position has an elongated body (15) having a track (16) for receiving the attachment means (17) spaced along the selvage of the sail, an extension (28) at the top end of the track for engaging said rigging (11) above the foot thereof, and an extension (22) at the bottom end for connecting the device (via a snap shackle 23) to the rigging at the foot thereof in offset relationship to the rigging. The device with a sail folded concertina fashion therein and the attachments (17) on the track (16) constitutes a magazine, which, when the sail in use on the vessel is lowered, is attached to the rigging, being held thereto by a latch device (30) the stoned sail then being hoisted, the attachments (17) running off the track (16) on to the rigging (11).
