Abstract
1,074,526. Compound rotational moulding. BRITISH HYDROCARBON CHEMICALS Ltd. Jan. 4, 1966 [Feb. 4, 1965], No. 4807/65. Heading B5A. A rotational moulding device comprises a mould support 1, Fig. 1, to hold the mould (not shown), the support being rotatable about a carrier 4, the carrier being rotatable about an axis at 45-90 degrees to the axis of rotation of the mould support (Fig. 1 shows an angle of 90 degrees), both axes of rotation intersecting the mould cavity when fixed preferably at one point, the support being driven through a first gear wheel 7, coaxial with the mould support axis of rotation and fixed to the mould support which meshes with a second gear-wheel 8 coaxial with the carrier axis of rotation, the second gear-wheel differing in angular velocity of rotation from the carrier, e.g. fixed as in Fig. 1, the initial drive being applied to the carrier. In a preferred embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the carrier is rotatable on a further carrior(s), all rotational axes being non-parallel and intersecting the mould cavity. Each carrier is preferably mounted on the carrier next outwards, drive being transmitted through pairs of gear-wheels comprising first gear-wheels (7, 14) fixed to the mould support or a carrier meshing with second gear-wheels (8, 15 etc.) fixed to the next but one carrier outwardly and coaxial with the intervening carrier. The mould support &c. carriers are preferably annuli nesting one within another.
