Abstract

1,074,213. Reversible controls for vehicles. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. Sept. 30, 1965, No. 41526/65. Heading B7H. Reversible controls for an earthworking machine, agricultural vehicle, materials handling machine or industrial tractor including hydraulic transmission and control means, comprise a steering wheel 41 carried by an arm 32 swingable about a transverse pivot to position the wheel in front of a driving seat 25 rotatable to face forwardly or rearwardly of the vehicle, and pedals 129, 95, 103 and 128, 99, 107 duplicated to the front and rear of the seat for controlling vehicle speed and differential braking of the wheels on opposite side of the vehicle. The steering wheel 41 is detachably secured by a hand nut (Fig. 9, not shown) selectively to either end of the actuating spindle 40 of a steering control valve 37 which is mounted on the arm 32 and controls supply of fluid from an engine-driven hydraulic pump 17 to a steering ram 47 linked to the steerable wheels of the vehicle. A support bracket 68 on the control valve 37 is secured in a rocket 72 in each direction of travel to support the steering wheel. The driving seat 25 is rotatable on a pedestal 21 and secured facing in either direction by a pin 26 engaging slots 27. The brake pedals 95, 103 and 97, 107 are connected by links 93, 97, 101, 104 and levers 84, 85 to twindisc brakes 90, 91 acting on respective transmission means associated with the driving wheels on opposite sides of the vehicle. The speed control pedals 125, 128 operate linkage (Fig. 6, not shown) controlling fluid output from the hydraulic pump 17 to hydraulic motors driving the wheels. A lever 130 controls the engine throttle and levers 131, 132 control the respective hydraulic motors.
