Abstract
A brake or clutch lining comprises an intimate mixture of (A) 10 to 70 wt. per cent of sintered inorganic friction composition having a grain size of 0.1 to 5 mm. and comprising (i) a metal powder and (ii) a mineral abrasive and (B) 90 to 30 wt. per cent of an organic friction composition comprising (i) an inorganic filler and (ii) an organic binder. Specified ingredients are (A) (i) Cu, Pb, Sn, Fe, Zn, Ni, Co and brass; (A) (ii) silica, alumina, clay, silicon carbide and corundum; (B) (i) asbestos, barytes, glass wool or particles, metal strands and metal oxides, and (B) (ii) natural or synthetic rubber and phenol-, cresol- or urea-formaldehyde resins. Optional ingredients mentioned are graphite and molybdenum disulphide.ALSO:A brake or clutch lining comprises an intimate mixture of (A) 10 to 70 wt. per cent of sintered inorganic friction composition having a particle size of 0.1 to 5 mm. and comprising (i) a metal powder and (ii) a mineral abrasive and (B) 90 to 30 wt. per cent of an organic friction composition comprising (i) an inorganic filler and (ii) an organic binder. Specified ingredients are:-(A) (i) Cu, Pb, Sn, Fe, Zn, Ni, Co and brass; (A) (ii) silica, alumina, quartz, magnesia, clay, silicon carbide and corundum; (B) (i) asbestos, barytes, glass wool or particles, metal strands and metal oxides; and (B) (ii) natural or synthetic rubber and phenol-, cresol-or urea-formaldehyde resins. Optional ingredients mentioned are graphite and molybdenum disulphide.
