Abstract

A printing plate mould is produced by spraying an original with a metal or metal alloy, stripping the sprayed layer from the original and applying a backing of a plastic material, such as a polyester or epoxy resin, to the sprayed metal &c., layer. Reinforcing material in the form of lamina or powder may be applied during the spraying of the original. The operative surface of mould may be provided with a layer of tin or nickel and/or copper by electrodeposition. Printing plates may be produced from the mould by spraying with bismuth, tin, cadmium, or an alloy, and then applying thereto a layer of tin or zinc which may contain a hard metal such as antimony.
