Abstract
1,071,442. Controlling reactors. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY (EURATOM). Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 15, 1963], No. 31040/64. Heading G6C. In a fast nuclear reactor, rapid or pulsed changes in the reactivity are effected by movable members adjacent to the core. The core reflector is provided with two apertures over each of which a member or screen is movable. Each screen produces a predetermined increase in reactivity when positioned over the associated aperture and the maximum increase, or pulse, of reactivity occurs when both screens are simultaneously covering the apertures. In a modification, one of the apertures and its screen may be slotted to provide a narrower pulse and fissionable material may be employed in the screens.
