Abstract
1,070,686. Automatic temperature control. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORPORATION. July 23, 1965 [July 23, 1964], No. 31596/65. Heading G3R. Apparatus for controlling the heating of a running yarn Y comprises a heating element 30 the energization of which is controlled by a relay 46 which is itself controlled by way of a bridge circuit 34 one arm of the bridge comprising a thermistor 32, sensitive to the temperature of the yarn Y, and a temperature setting resistor 38, the control circuit for the relay 46 further including a thermionic valve amplifier 66, 72 such that the relay is alternately energized and de-energized according to the state of the bridge circuit 34, contact 42 of the relay controlling the energization of the heating element in an ON-OFF manner whilst contacts 74 of the relay cause alternate energization of heaters 76, 78 associated with resistors 82, 84 in the bridge circuit so as to provide the apparatus with a proportional action. A variable resistor 71 in the cathode circuit of the valve 66 permits adjustment of the length of the ON-OFF cycle of the relay and the thermistor 32 may have either a negative or a positive temperature characteristic. The construction of the thermistor is such that the yarn contacts the tip thereof only thus rendering the apparatus little sensitive to the ambient temperature.
