Heading B5N] A slab-form component, suitable, for example, for making or covering floors, comprises a base layer 1, of material comprising at least 80% inorganic filler bonded with at least 6% of bitumen or natural or synthetic resin, and one or more surface layers, which may comprise P.V.C., rubber, wood, cork, carpet or other fabric, or felt, and which, as shown, comprises a layer 2e<SP>11</SP> of jute fabric and a layer 2e<SP>1</SP> of wood blocks, the surface layers being secured by a polymerizable and cross-linkable adhesive such as a polyester or epoxy resin. The base layer may be formed on its lower and/or upper faces with depressions as shown, may be of natural or synthetic asphalt, and may contain flakes of hard foamed plastics or be foamed by addition of an agent such as ammonium carbonate. Suitable natural resins for the base layer are cupal resins dissolved in solvents such as amyl alcohol, cyclohexane, ethyl acetate or dioxane; suitable synthetic resins therefor are phenolic, cresylic, epoxy and polyester resins. Other combinations of surface layers described are (a) wood, with an interposed layer of aluminium foil, and (b) wood with an interposed layer of foam resin.
