Abstract
1,068,800. Feeding webs. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. Oct. 7, 1965 [Oct. 8, 1964], No. 42657/65. Heading B6B. In web-rewinding apparatus, the web 10 passing from the supply roll 11 to a take-up roll 12 is guided by a pair of spaced apart guides 14 and 15, and a pair of guides 18a and 18b which rotate the web through 90 degrees about an axis of rotation coinciding with the intended centre line of the web between the guides 14, and 15, thereby removing transverse sway of the running web. The guides have gas permeable metal surfaces and are connected to a source of compressed gas to float the web in spaced relationship thereto. They may be covered with a permeable nylon velvet which serves to remove dust without abrasion. The web-rewinding apparatus may include a longitudinal slitting device, 44, Fig. 3 (not shown). The supply-roll 11 is braked with a pneumatic, spring-loaded or magnetic brake 23. The takeup roll 12 is driven by peripheral contact with a driven roller 13, but also has a torque motor 31 connected to its shaft which prevents freewheeling of the roll 12.
