Abstract
106,837. Lancashire Dynamo & Motor Co., Wood, A. P., and Garner, J. R. March 15, 1916. Projectiles; projectile fuses.-Consists in securing the exploder container B in a high-explosive shell to the adapter A, which screws into the nose of the shell, by forcing by axial pressure a suitably-shaped flange b<1> on the mouth of the tube B into an annular recess a<2> formed around a shoulder a on the adapter, the object of the invention being to avoid securing the parts together by brazing. The face of the shoulder may be conical, and the recess a <2> may be slightly tapered. The recess may be formed in an intermediate shoulder, in which case the pressing-die is so shaped as to bear upon this shoulder and press it upon the flange b<1>, expanded within the recess. According to the Provisional Specification, the flange mav be normal to the tube B and be secured by forcing inwardly over it a shouldered portion of the adapter. The relative arrangement of the exploder container, the adapter, the gaine, and the fuse in the nose of the shell is illustrated in the Specification.
