Abstract

The invention comprises water-soluble reactive dyes containing at least one group of formula <FORM:1067852/C4-C5/1> wherein hal is Cl or Br, A is H or CH3 and R is H or alkyl. The dyes are prepared by treating a dye or dye intermediate containing an acylatable NH2 or NH alkyl group with a 2,4-dihalogeno-pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid halide or its 6-methyl derivative and when an intermediate is used converting this into a dye by an azo coupling or condensation reaction. The dyes may be used to colour leather, natural and synthetic polyamide fibres and preferably cellulose materials by the usual reactive dye processes. In examples the preparation of mono- and dis-azo, metallized azo, stilbeneazo, anthraquinone and phthalocyanine dyes is described. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 903,048.ALSO:1 - Amino - 3 - (21,41 - dichloropyrimidinyl-51-carbonylamino)-benzene-6-sulphonic acid (as Na salt) is prepared by condensing 1,3-diaminobenzene-6-sulphonic acid in aqueous NaOH with 2,4 - dichloropyrimidine - 5 - carboxylic acid chloride dissolved in acetone. 2,4 - Dichloropyrimidine - 5 - carboxylic acid- (51 - hydroxy - 71 - sulpho - 21 - naphthyl) - amide is prepared as above using 2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 903,048.
