Abstract
1,067,112. Fenders. TAYLOR WOODROW INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Feb. 22, 1966 [Feb. 26, 1965], No. 8519/65. Heading B7S. In a dock fender structure comprising a number of high tensile steel piles (10), Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), firmly embedded in the sea bed at spaced points and linked at their upper parts by transverse beams (11) also of high-tension steel, each beam (11) is flexed by means of a tensioning wire (12) so as to cause that part of the beam against which berthing impact is likely to occur to be forced forward against the reaction of anchoring means at the opposite ends of each beam. The piles (10), which may be driven vertically or may be raked, may be spaced along a straight line or an arcuate path. In the latter case the preflexed transverse beams (11) will have their curvature increased between their spaced support points. Such a flexed fender structure has a great energy absorption capacity.
