Abstract

Organic derivatives of hydrazine are prepared by contacting an isohydrazone with an acid to yield a reaction medium containing a hydrazine salt and subsequently converting said hydrazine to a hydrazine derivative in the presence of the reaction medium from which aldehyde or ketone may have been separated. In a modification of the process the isohydrazone is contacted with a mixture of the acid and a substance containing an acidic function with which the hydrazine salt reacts to form a hydrazine derivative. Examples describe the preparation of hydrazo-diisobutyronitrile, dehydrourea, maleic hydrazide, benzene sulphonylhydrazide, oxy - bis - (benzene sulphonylhydrazide), thiosemicarboxide, N,N1-di - (b - carboxy - acroyl) - hydrazine (which may be hydrolysed to maleic hydroxide and maleic acid), and N-phthalimido-phthalimide. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 890,334 and 893,388.ALSO:In Example 1, an aqueous solution of hydrazine sulphate is prepared by adding methyl ethyl ketone isohydrazone to aqueous sulphuric acid and distilling off the methyl ethyl ketone formed.
