Abstract

An electroluminescent device comprises two adjacent (e.g. inter digitated) electrodes deposited on the same face of a sintered phosphor block. The block may be e.g. zinc sulphide activated by manganese or copper nitrates with an alkali or alkaline earth halide flux, prepared by pressing at 10 ton/sq. inch and fired at 600-1,300 DEG C. The electrodes, metal or e.g. stannous chloride, are then deposited on the sintered block.
