Abstract
A hard copper plate is formed from an acid copper plating bath to which is added a mixture of ethyl alcohol 40-60% by wt, glacial acetic acid 30-40%, gelatine 0.2 to 0.4%, casein 0.5 to 0.7%, and H2SO4 10 to 20%. An acid solution of copper sulphate of pH 0.4 to 1.5 is used, and up to 4 per cent. by volume of the mixture is added. The hard copper surface is suitable for eletrodes, commutators, and other friction-bearing parts.
