Abstract

A steel comprises .C.0.01 - 1.6% .Mn.0.25 - 2.5% .Si.0.25 - 2.5% .Cr.10 - 30% .Ni.0.5 - 10% .Cu.0.5 - 10% .B.0.2 - 4.0% and optionally Ta/Nb up to 1% the balance, apart from impurities such as up to 0.05% each of S and P being iron. The alloy may be heated at 1900 DEG F. or 900 DEG F. and then air cooled. A lining on the interior of cylindrical ferrous metal shells may be provided by centrifugal casting.
