Abstract

A method of sterilizing comprises the steps of placing a load of materials to be sterilized (e.g. textiles and other porous materials for use in hospitals) in a chamber, introducing a sterilizing vapour (e.g. steam) into the chamber in order to raise the pressure in the chamber to a predetermined value, exhausting the vapour from the chamber for a predetermined time, thereby decreasing the pressure, again introducing the sterilizing vapour into the chamber to increase the pressure to the above-mentioned predetermined value, such decrease in pressure and increase in pressure comprising a pulse, repeating this pulse for a predetermined number of times, and then introducing the vapour at a sterilizing temperature into the chamber for a predetermined sterilization time. Apparatus for carrying out the sterilization method is described, and also an electrical control circuit therefor.
