Abstract
In coating surfaces with a liquid contained in a trough the surface and the trough are moved relative to each other and the trough is pivoted so as to apply coating liquid to the surface; a coating of substantially uniform thickness being achieved by pivoting the trough in accordance with the quantity of coating liquid applied to the surface. The trough is preferably pivoted by control means and coating liquid may be supplied to the trough during a coating operation by means for regulating the quantity of coating liquid supplied thereto. Web or sheet material may be fed around a drum, the latter having a tiltable trough, the lip of which can be brought into contact with the surface of the web on the drum. (Fig. 3, not shown). Cleaning and heating means may be provided prior to the coating trough and drying means including hot air circulating means (Fig. 4, not shown) may be provided after the coating trough.
