1,064,174. Electrical analysis of liquids; resistance measuring bridges. APPARATENFABRIEK PLAISER N. V. Aug. 13, 1964 [Aug. 14, 1963], No. 33043/64. Headings G1N and G1U. Apparatus for measuring the concentration of salt in a liquid comprises an A. C. bridge circuit 4 having first and second branches 4a, 4b each comprising a diode and a resistor in series, a third branch 4c comprising a resistor and a fourth branch 4d comprising a conductivity cell, wherein the equilibrium of the bridge is effected by adjusting one of the resistors and the out of balance voltage is taken from the connections between respectively 4a, 4b and 4c, 4d and is fed to a transistorized D. C. amplifier having an indicator light in its output circuit. As shown, the out of balance voltage is taken from a potentiometer 7 forming part of each of the first and second branches 4a, 4b and is amplified by a transistor 12 before passing to transistor 17 which conducts when the bridge is out of balance. At the balance point, transistor 17 becomes non-conducting and transistor 18 conducts thereby lighting the indicator light 20. The sensitivity of the apparatus is determined by the value of resistor 21. In operation, the potentiometer 7 is adjusted manually, starting from one end and the salt concentration is deduced from the setting of the potentiometer at balance. Resistor 15 has a negative temperature coefficient to compensate for changes in ambient temperature.
