Abstract
1,061,980. Milling. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Nov. 27, 1963 [Nov. 27, 1962], No. 23416/65. Divided out of 1.061,979. Heading B3K. A device for milling grooves in a cable stem 14 comprises four milling machines disposed so that their cutters 18 have cutting surfaces lying at the four corners of square. The cutters 18 project through slots in a guide 3 within a cable-spinning cage. A suction chamber 10 delivers cuttings to an exit tube 29 and brushes 11 clear the machined stem. A guide 13 feeds conductors 12 into the milled slots. Each cutter motor 19 is supplied with current via slip-rings 7 and is mounted on adjustable cross-slides 20, 21 which can be adjusted angularly about a pivot 23 by worm and quadrant means 38, 39. The four machines are mounted on a plate 1 indexable angularly on a rotary plate 5. In operation, the plastic core stem 14 is drawn through the apparatus while the cutters and conductor guides rotate therearound. The cutters may be adjusted around the stem by stopping the feed of the stem and the rotation of the cage, by gripping the stem by a collet 9, by releasing a locking pin 6, by indexing the plate 1, and by then re-locking the plate and recommencing the feed and rotary movements.
