Abstract

1,060,927. Cleaning eggs. NORRIS GRAIN CO. Sept. 1, 1965, No. 37289/65. Heading A1M. [Also in Division B8] In egg-washing apparatus in which the eggs are carried through a washing apparatus on a conveyer 11 comprising parallel roller assemblies 20 extending between side chains 21, 21<SP>1</SP>, the eggs are fed into the apparatus arranged in rows on trays (15) carried on a parallel conveyer (10) and are lifted on to the conveyer 11 by means of egg-gripping loops 55, 56 opened and closed under the control of a cam and linkage arrangement. The frame 41 carrying the gripper assembly 50 is swung over the conveyer 11 by means of a rock shaft (47) oscillated to move the frame through 180 degrees by a linkage and ratchet mechanism operated by a motor. A stacking mechanism is provided for stacking the trays (15). After passing through the washing apparatus the eggs are transferred to further trays (15) located on the conveyer (10) by means of an egg-gripper assembly similar to assembly 50.
