Headings G1N and G1U In an arrangement for measuring the electrical conductivity of a material in which the apparent resistance, load current or power loss in a coil 10 inducing eddy currents in the material provides the indication, an electrical screen (15) is interposed between the face of the coil and the material to eliminate capacitive effects. Suitable wire mesh screens comprising a comb-like arrangement with the common end earthed are described with reference to Fig. 2 and 3 (not shown). The indicating circuit may be coupled by a coil (13) on the core (12) of coil (10) and the current in the circuit may be measured by a null method using the output from an oscillator (17) which energizes the two coils in phase opposition. In the case in which the material is a fluid the concentration of a constituent of which is to be determined, the probe may be formed integral with the container. The change of resistance of a tuned circuit including the coil may be measured.
