Abstract

[Also in Division F2] An elongated body having a casing wall of uniform cross-sectional shape and continuously varying cross-sectional area, e.g. a pipe, comprises at least two layers of metal fibres or filaments or metal wire made rigid by a settable binder. The body is made by a laying-up or winding process using a suitable mandrel and the fibres or wire turns of any layer are juxtaposed and similarly oriented, the fibres or turns of adjacent layers being differently oriented if desired. The binder may be used to join two bodies from the ends of which loose fibre ends extend.
