1,059,086. Sorting documents. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Nov. 4, 1964 [Nov. 16, 1963], No. 44881/64. Heading G4M. A legible character recorded on a document in magnetic ink is sensed by a character recognition system which controls a recording head for recording a corresponding simple coded character on the document, a subsequent sensing device reading the simple coded character to direct the document to an appropriate sorting pocket. Each simple character may be formed by de-magnetizing a discrete area of a strip of magnetic material on the document.
