Abstract

Kaolin clay is brightened by producing a clay-water slurry, which may be of 30% by weight solids content, blending in from 0.10 to 1% by weight of aluminium sulphate as coagulant, and from 0.10 to 3% by weight of a reducing bleaching agent, e.g. zinc hydrosulphite, both on dry weight of clay, filtering and reslurrying with fresh water, e.g. to a 30% by weight of solids content, filtering and drying.
