Abstract

In a crimping process, a running length of thermoplastic yarn is softened by heat, immediately wrapped in one or more successive turns each through at least 360 degrees about a corresponding number of crimping members each constituted by a portion of the yarn itself. The tension in each portion of yarn forming a crimping member is greater than the tension in the corresponding wrap. Each crimping member extends in a V-shape between entrance and exit guides, the latter positioned upstream relative to the former in the general direction of yarn travel to and from the wrap. The guides (51, 52) are adjustably mounted on a swinging arm (58), Fig. 7 (not shown).
