Abstract

The invention comprises N-cyclopentyl, cycloheptyl, 2-methyl-cyclohexyl, 3-methyl-cyclohexyl, 4-methyl-cyclohexyl, 4-t.-butyl-phenyl and 2,4,6 - trimethyl - phenyl - linoleamides, N - ethyl - N - (3 - methyl - phenyl) - linoleamide and N - linoleoyl - hexamethyleneimine, and their preparation by reaction of linoleic acid, linoleic acid chloride or a linoleic acid ester with an appropriate amine. Other octadecadienoic acid amides of formula C17H31CONRR1, wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or cycloalkyl group and R1 is an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl, aralkenyl, cycloalkyl or alkylcycloalkyl group, or the group -NRR1 form a heterocycle are similarly prepared.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions having cholsterol lowering activity comprise, in combination with a carrier, one or more octadecadienoic acid amides of formula C17H31CONRR1, in which R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or cycloalkyl group and R1 is an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl, aralkenyl, cycloalkyl or alkylcyclo alkyl group, or the group - NRR1 forms a heterocycle. The compositions may be in forms suitable for oral administration and may also contain linoleic acid.
