Abstract
1,057,734. Semi-conductor devices. TELEFUNKEN PATENT VERWALTS G.m.b.H. May 20, 1964 [May 22, 1963], No. 20803/64. Heading H1K. Contacts are applied to a plurality of semiconductor elements forming part of a wafer by soldering the teeth of a comb-shaped electrode to the elements, the electrode being positioned normal to the electrode, and then cutting off the teeth for use as electrodes. Fig. 3 shows a plurality of comb-shape bodies 6 the teeth 5 of which have been soldered to individual elements of semi-conductor provided by the scoring of wafer 1. The bodies 6 may then be separated by fracturing the wafer along the scored lines and further electrodes may be provided, for example as shown in Fig. 8 to the semi-conductor elements 4 while these are supported by body 6. In Fig. 8 electrodes 9 forming part of comb-shaped body 8 are bent at their ends for attachment to the semi-conductors 4 and a spacer 14 is provided for use during assembly. Alternatively wire electrodes may be affixed to the semi-conductor elements while supported by the comb-shaped bodies 6 in a multiple operation, and for this purpose reference is made to the use of quartz "landings" on the semi-conductor element which bear electrical coatings forming part of the electrode structure. When these operations have been completed the teeth 5 are cut from the rest of comb 6 and the individual teeth separated by fracturing the scored semi-conductor wafer thus providing a plurality of transistors or other devices.
