Abstract
1,055,987. Variable-speed gear. E. H. CLAY. Oct. 26, 1964 [Nov. 5, 1963], No. 43730/63. Heading F2D. In a gear having its ratio continuously altered in dependence upon the applied load, an input shaft 1 and a bevel gear 9 drive a planetary bevel gear 8 fast with the planet carrier of a bevel gear differential 13. One of the differential output shafts 5 carries a bevel gear 7 meshing a fixed reaction gear 3, and the other differential output shaft 6 drives a reversing train 15, 16 and reducing train 18, 19 connected to a sun gear 21. Both output shafts 5, 6 are journalled in a rotatable carrier 4, formed with a ring gear 26. Planet pinions 22 mesh the sun gear 21 and ring gear 26, and are mounted upon an output shaft 25. The train 15, 16 may alternatively be outside the frame 4.
