Abstract
105,556. Hellstrom, G. Jan. 4, 1916, [Convention date]. Suction apparatus.-A suction roll for drying paper, paper pulp, cloth, or like porous and absorbent materials, comprises a suction box 7 fitted to the outer surface of a perforated roll 1, the parts of the roll not covered by either the wet sheet 3 or the box 7 being separated from the suction surface by fixed separation walls 14. 15, the spaces within which are ma.intained at atmospheric pressure by pipes 13a, 13 communicating with the outside atmosphere. Fibres sucked into the perforations from the wet sheet 3 are washed out again by the water passing from the roll 1 to the suction box 7, rendering the roll self-cleaning. A pressure roll 19 may be used.
