Abstract
In a machine for pleating pile material before sticking it to a base fabric, the material is folded between blades projecting radially from a continuously-rotating drum by means of a radially-reciprocating inserter. To prevent material from being robbed from the preceding pleat, a presser foot clamps it against the top of the blades. The inserter and the presser foot swing round the axis of the drum so as to accompany the drum whilst forming a pleat and then swing back through one blade pitch. Another presser foot, also swinging round the axis of the drum, clamps the material coming from the supply against the drum blades so that it is positively advanced by the rotation of the drum, thereby preventing robbing of the pleats when the inserter is withdrawn for a backward swing.
