[Also in Divisions B8 and E2] An aircraft loading ramp is hinged to close part of an opening in the fuselage, the rest of the opening being closed by an extension slidable from a retracted position within the ramp, or left open to permit long items of cargo to extend out of the fuselage. The ramp 12 (Fig. 2, not shown) also has auxiliary ramps 22 attached to it by hinges 23 which permit lateral movement to accommodate vehicles of different track (see Division E2), and allow the auxiliary ramps to be pivoted to engage the ground, through ground-engaging pads 24. The auxiliary ramps may alternatively be held horizontal by struts 84, 87 (Figs. 18, 19, not shown). The ramp is moved by an hydraulic actuator 17, and the extension has rollers engaging tracks in the ramp and is attached to a continuous cable and chain driven by an hydraulic motor (Figs. 6-9, not shown). Each track 39 has a dip 40 at its outer end (Fig. 7, not shown) into which a roller 50 drops, moving the extension against seals 52, 53 on the ramp and fuselage respectively (Figs. 15 and 16, not shown).
