A buckle fastener comprises two substantially identical parts 10 each part comprising a unitary member having opposed side walls 11, a bottom wall 12, a top wall 13, a forward portion 14, a rearward portion 15 and a recess 16 extending from one to the other of said side walls 11, said forward and rearward portions 14, 15 having walls 17, 18 diverging towards said bottom wall 12 and defining said recess 16 and said recess having a wall 19 joining said diverging walls 17, 18 and extending in an inclined direction from one of said side walls 11 towards said bottom wall 12; each part further comprising an opening 20 in said top wall 13 extending inwardly from the other of said side walls and communicating with' said recess and a wall 21 intermediate said side walls 11 and constituting a terminating wall of the inclined wall 19 of the recess and of said opening 20; said forward portion 14 of each part having a first wall surface 22 extending in an inclined direction from said terminating wall 21 away from said bottom wall 12, and a second inclined wall surface 23 extending from said bottom wall 12 towards said top wall 13 and in substantially parallel relation to said diverging wall 17 of said recess on said forward portion; and said parts have an interlocking position in which the inclined wall surface 23 of said forward portion 14 of each said part is in engagement with said diverging wall 18 of said rearward portion 15 of the other of said parts and said inclined wall 19 of said recess of each one of said parts is in engagement with said first wall surface 22 of said forward portion of the other of said parts. Each part is either provided with a loop 24 for the connection of the strap 25 or alternatively a groove is formed in each rearward portion 15 for the reception of a garment edge section to which the part is fixed by a clinching movement of the groove walls.
