Abstract

1,054,602. Sizing compositions. A. E. STALEY MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 19, 1965 [March 12, 1964], No. 7325/65. Heading C3P. A sizing composition comprises an aqueous alkaline dispersion of (1) an addition copolymer of a monoalkyl ester of itaconic acid and an alkyl ester of an alpha, beta ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and (2) a compatible (defined) water-dispersible antistatic agent, wherein the dried film of the dispersion has a Tukon K 5 hardness of about 0À03 to 1À00 at 63% relative humidity as measured by ASTM D-1474. The preferred copolymer contains monomethyl itaconate, monobutyl itaconate, ethyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate. The dispersion may also contain ingredients such as lubricating agents and starch.
