Abstract
1,054,504. Unloading barges by suction. INGENIEURSBUREAU VOOR SYSTEMEN EN OCTROOIEN " SPANSTAAL." April 6, 1965 [April 7, 1964], No. 14529/65. Headings B8A and B8E. [Also in Division F1] To unload sand 13 from a barge, water is pumped into the barge through a pipe 4 and a suction nozzle 2 is lowered into the loosened sand to remove the resulting suspension as the barge is hauled in the direction 11. Water is also passed down a pipe 5 into spillage sand 18 which is pumped through a second suction nozzle 22, a pump 23 and a pipe 24 to a position adjacent the first suction nozzle 2. In a system for unloading two barges, Fig. 5 (not shown), water from pipe 5b and spillage sand 18 remaining in barge 6b is delivered by means of a suction nozzle 22a, pump 23a and pipe 24a to a full barge 6a. Sand from barge 6a is pumped to its destination through a nozzle 2a, suction pump 20a and pipe 21a. The two barges are secured to a single haulage system. Systems for handling four barges, Fig. 6 (not shown), or two barges on opposite sides of the suction unloader, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown) are also described. In a further modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the second suction nozzle 22d has its pipe 24d connected through a valve 31 to the first suction nozzle 2d and the pump 23 is omitted.
