Abstract
1,053,833. Moulding building boards. G. J. VAN ELTEN. Jan. 27, 1964 [Jan. 30, 1963], No. 3422/64. Heading B5A. A fleece of wood-wool impregnated with a binder, e.g. cement or magnesite, is laid upon, and preliminarily compressed in, a series of contiguous moving moulds and cut out into lengths as in Specification 902,995, the filled moulds then being stacked and pressed in a pressing device and finally clamped and left, to allow the binder to set. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the filled moulds are placed on a hydraulically operated press plated 26 and raised until the upper surface of the rims 14 contact and raise plates 17, which are pivoted at 21 to the frame of the device, and which are initially supported by frames 18. The plates in turn support the stack of moulds already introduced into the machine. Spring biased switch member 24 upon which the plates initially rest is thus released which stops hydraulic cylinder 25 and advances, by means of cylinders 20, the plates 17, to push any excess material between rims 13 and the bottom 13 of the preceding mould into the mould cavity, as is shown in Fig. 3 (not shown). Plates 17 are subsequently retracted and the platen 26 further raised to fully compress the material, and to raise the lowest mould above the level of the plates, which are then forwarded to their initial portion to support the stack whilst the platen is lowered to receive a fresh mould. During the compression the stack is restrained by a hydraulically operated platen 15 or by a heavy weight which weight may be retained on the stack during the final curing. In an alternative embodiment shown in Fig. 4 (not shown) each of the plates 17 are connected to the actuating cylinder 20 through a magazine 30 (only one shown) which contains loose side rims 31, the stack of moulds being supported by the plates as before. The platen 26 is raised and side rims 31 pushed on to the mould bottom 13, to laterally compress the material, along guiding means 36, by a cylinder operated member 35. The plates 17 are then retracted and the platen further raised, to compress the material, until the plates may be reintroduced under the stack. The platen is then lowered, the next mould and rims introduced, and the cycle repeated.
