Abstract
1,052,885. Laminates. MANNESMANN A.G. May 29, 1963 [June 20, 1962], No. 21488/63. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions C3 and F2] A metal tube, e.g. of steel, has coated thereon two plastic layers, the bottom layer being of hard polyethylene (molecular weight at least 50,000) and the top layer being of soft polyethylene (molecular weight not greater than 30,000), said bottom layer being bound to the metal tube, and said top layer being bound to the bottom layer, by a layer of a pressuresensitive adhesive consisting of a mixture of polyisobutylene, hard paraffin, a natural resin (e.g. balsam resin or colophony) and bitumen. Both layers of adhesive are desirably 0À3 to 0À5 mm. thick, the hard polyethylene layer preferably 0À5 to 1 mm. thick, and the soft polyethylene layer 2 to 5 mm. thick. The metal tube is preferably coated by preheating it to about 100 C., applying the adhesive preheated to about 150 C. followed by the hard polyethylene preheated to about 200 C., then more adhesive as before, and finally the soft polyethylene heated to about 120 C.
