Abstract

1,052,161. Suction cleaners. HOOVER Ltd. March 5, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 9416/64. Heading A4F. A suction cleaner comprises an elongated housing containing a filter chamber 60 and a motor fan chamber 28 at its lower end, the motor fan unit communicating with the filter chamber 60 via an inlet 85. An exhaust passageway 74 leading to an exhaust port 75 extends alongside the filter chamber 60 from end to end and is formed partly by a false front and partly by a wall 18 of the filter chamber 60. The housing 13 is pivotably mounted between spaced arms 12 of a nozzle body 10 (Fig. 1, not shown). The motor fan chamber 28 is divided by a rib and gasket 36 into a suction compartment to the left and an exhaust compartment to the right, the former communicating with the filter chamber 60 via inlet 85 and the latter with exhaust passageway 74 via outlet 29. The filter bag 69 is supported in the filter chamber 60 from the projection of a conduit 66 which puts its inlet in communication with a hose 64 leading to a nozzle 10 through side arm 12. A secondary filter is inserted at the bottom of the filter chamber 60. The exhaust passage 74 is fitted with sponge rubber strips 76 to help absorb noise.
