Abstract

1,051,910. Vehicle suspensions; steering. P. CORBIN. Nov. 10, 1964 [July 18, 1964], No. 45833/64. Headings B7D and B7H. In a motor vehicle front suspension which provides for banking of the wheels on cornering, a rectangular frame 3 is pivoted at 3a to a frame member 5. Two pairs of trailing arms carry the steering knuckles 15, the upper pair 17 being connected to a balancing rod 21 mounted for axial movement in a sleeve 23 carried by the frame 5. The lower arms 19 are pivoted at 19a to a frame member 7 and are connected at 19b to resilient suspension devices 41 whose upper ends are connected to the frame 3. A lever 35 is pivoted at 35a to the frame 5 and is connected by links 39 and 37 to the frame 3 and one trailing arm 17. Upon cornering, centrifugal force oscillates the frame 3 about its pivot 3a with consequential movement of the bar 21 in its sleeve 23 as tilting the wheels. A rear suspension comprises a solid axle integral with which is a pair of pedestals 53 which support the vehicle by means of springs 51 and vibration dampers 55. The axle is guided by means of a pair of lower torsion arms 65 and an upper arm 59. The vehicle frame 45, 45<SP>1</SP> is spanned by a U-shaped bridging frame 49 at the location of the axle. The steering knuckles 15 are integral with wheel arms (29, Fig. 3, not shown), which are connected by rearwardly extending rods (31) to a T-member (25) connected by a drop arm (33) to the steering mechanism.
