Abstract
1,051,714. Paper-making machines. NORTON CO. June 5, 1963 [June 18, 1962]. No. 24036/63. Heading D2A. A Fourdrinier wire paper machine, in which the underside of the wire is engaged by the upper surface of a forming board and foil elements, has each wire engaging surface formed of a refractory material, the surfaces being imperforate, wear resistant, and relatively friction free with respect to the wire, and having at least the leading edge rounded. The coating is preferably sprayed onto a nickelchrome undercoat on a stainless steel or bronze base by the method described in Specification 745,257. Preferred oxides are chromium and aluminium oxides while zirconium or magnesium silicate aluminate may be added to the latter. The oxide coating is polished. The coating is porous so that water in the pores acts as a lubricant, or alternatively resin-for example a phenolic, epoxy, or silicone resin-may be added to the oxide surface and cured, thereby penetrating into the pores. The resin surface layer may optionally then be ground away.
