Abstract
1,051,189. Cleaning tanks. S. M. BOXALL. March 2, 1965 [Dec. 2, 1963], No. 47543/63. Heading A4F. [Also in Division B2] Apparatus suitable for cleaning tanks &c. comprises a fluid delivery tube 1, a support member 5 rotatably mounted on the discharge end of the tube, a drive unit 17-21 for rotating the member 5 about the longitudinal axis of the tube, and at least one nozzle 10 mounted on the member 5 and adapted to be rotated relative to said member about an axis which is oblique both with respect to the axis of rotation of the member 5 and to its own longitudinal axis. The nozzle is rotated by a gear-wheel 15 which engages a gear-wheel 16 rigidly attached to the stationary tube 1. Preferably the member 5 is provided at at least two channels 9 to each of which a nozzle is connected. The turbine wheel 20 of the apparatus drive is rotated by a diverted stream of fluid In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the fluid is supplied to a pair of nozzles via two coaxial tubes, said nozzles being connected to parallel oppositely directed channels. The apparatus may be enclosed in a protective housing provided with apertures for the fluid jets, Fig. 3 (not shown). A cruciform insert may be located in each nozzle to reduce the turbulence in the jet of fluid.
