Abstract
1,051,054. Breathing apparatus. AUERGESELLSHAFT. G.m.b.H. July 13, 1964 [July 13, 1963], No. 28876/64. Heading AST. Breathing apparatus for use in atmospheres containing carbon monoxide comprises a filter 1 filled with a catalyst for the conversion of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide, a heat exchanger or cooler 3 for cooling the air to be inspired, which air has been heated by the oxidation reaction mouthpiece 2 with inspiration valve, and exhalation valve 6. The expired air cools the heat exchanger 3 in passing therethrough. The heat exchanger may comprise wire meshes, metal sheets, tubes 4, metal shavings or metal wool. The heat exchanger may be removably placed between filter 1 and mouthpiece 2 or around the filter 1. The filter casing and the expiration valve casing may be provided with cooling ribs and/or black surfaces.
