Abstract

<PICT:1049519/C1/1> A sheet or ribbon of glass, previously scored along parallel transverse lines, is broken in apparatus which comprises a pair of lower rollers 3, 4 for transporting the glass and a pair of upper rollers 6, 7 located one before and one behind the lower rollers and carried by a member 8 arranged to press the trailing upper roller on to the glass at the correct time. The forward upper roller 6 is freely rotatable on the member 8 which is freely pivoted at 9, while the roller 7 rotates on a spindle 11 in an eccentric 12 secured by its pivot 13 to the member 8. When a score line is sensed by a device 14 or 17, the eccentric is rotated to cause both rollers 6, 7 to press on the glass. A conveyer belt 5 delivering the cut strips travels at a greater rate than the belt 2 transporting the glass to the breaking point.
