Abstract
1,049,512. Arc extinguishing in switches; electromagnetic switches. DONOVAN ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. Oct. 21, 1964 [Nov. 27, 1963], No. 46801/63. Heading H2B. A switch comprising one or more sets of fixed and bridging contacts 10, 14 is provided with a pair of hoods 25 covering its contacts and containing arc extinguishing devices each of which comprises a plurality of spaced steel plates 30 mounted on bars 32, e.g. of resinimpregnated glass fibre, inserted into slots 25 in walls 26 of the hood which serve to separate the several sets of contacts. The plates 30 have crenellated or jagged edges facing the contacts, the projecting portions of adjacent plates being staggered. The arc extinguishing devices are held in place by attaching the last plate 30 to the front wall of the hood. Instead of a plurality of plates a single diecast member may be employed. The switch is electromagnetically operated (Fig. 2, not shown).
