Abstract
1,049,261. Spray-producers. E. D. NORRIS. Jan. 25, 1965 [Jan. 27, 1964], No. 3157/65. Heading B2F. A paint spray gun comprises paint inlet passages 55, 56, 14 terminating in a outlet orifice controlled by a spring-loaded valve member 42, a tapered nozzle member 32 forming, with a tube 33, a compressed air outlet coaxial with the paint outlet, and a pair of hollow horn members 25 adapted to direct jets 119 of compressed air on to the tapered stream of paint projected from the paint outlet so as to retard the spray particles and to distort the spray pattern into elliptical form. The airjets impinge upon the paint stream at its point 26 of minimum cross-section and at diametrically opposed points. The air passage leading to the nozzle 32 is defined by fins 35 and the said nozzle is secured to a metal tube 20. A high electrical potential is applied to the nozzle 32 and the horns 25 through an air-cooled resistor 62, a cable 63, and a washer 66 which is clamped against the tube 20. In operation actuation of a trigger 80 causes a cam 85 to open the valve member 42 to an adjustable extent. To spray recessed members the trigger is further retracted so as to advance a valve in an air passage, Fig. 10 (not shown) to restrict the air flow to the horns, the velocity of the spray particles being thus increased; the cam 85 is simultaneously rotated to decrease the volume of liquid supplied to the nozzle. Fig. 2 (not shown) depicts horns of an alternative construction and Figs. 14, 15 (not shown) illustrate a further method of mounting the horns.
