Abstract
A solution comprising HCl, SnCl2 and an inhibitor is used to clean steel, Cu, Ni, Ni alloys, brass and tin bronze at up to 70 DEG C. to quantity of SnCl2 being maintained constant to keep the redox potential below 280 mV. The inhibitor may be hexamethylene tetramine, alkaloids or quaternary ammonium bases, the acid may be alternatively H2So4, HNO3, citric, sulphamic or phosphoric acid.
