Abstract
The invention comprises thiazolidinones of formula <FORM:1048798/C2/1> wherein R1 is an alkyl, aryl (which may be substituted by halogen atoms or nitro groups), aroyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxyaryl or aryl sulphonyl group or an alkyl or aryl group substituted by a radical of the formula <FORM:1048798/C2/2> R2 and R3 each represent an alkyl group or together form a hydrocarbon ring, and R4 and R3 each represent an alkyl group or together with the nitrogen atom, form a heterocyclic ring, optionally with further hetero atoms which may be substituted by a radical of the formula <FORM:1048798/C2/3> They are prepared by reacting an enamine whose b -carbon atom is substituted by alkyl radicals with sulphur or a sulphur producing compound such as trimethylamine polysulphides or xanthogenate polysulphides, and an isocyanate. The reaction is suitably carried out in an inert solvent at temperatures in the range of 10 DEG to 150 DEG C. Preferred enamines for the process are isobutenyl morpholine, isobutenyl piperidine, isobutenyl-N-methyl piperazine, isobutenyl-di-n-butyl amine and isobutenyl - di - n - isopropylamine, but others are listed. Suitable isocyanates include aryl isocyanates or arylene diisocyanates which may be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy, carboxyalkyl, halogen or nitro groups, alkyl isocyanates, alkylene diisocyanates, cycloalkyl isocyanates, aryl sulphonyl and benzoyl isocyanates.
