Abstract
1,048,094. Multiple-retractable writing instruments. K. H. HEINZ. Feb. 5, 1964 [Feb. 6, 1963; Feb. 19, 1963], No. 4939/64. Heading B6P. In a multiple retractable writing instrument (ball point pen or pencil lead), the pendulum 11 for selecting a particular lead carrier 2 is guided within the aperture of a guide member 14, which aperture has outer corners disposed axially over the heads 7 of the lead carriers. Figs. 3, 9 and 11 (not shown) illustrate three different types of apertures. The retracting mechanism of proven type may be telescopic-cap actuated, as shown in Fig. 5, or push-button actuated as in Fig. 1 (not shown). The retracting means may be of the type in which each individual supporting rod 3 of a lead carrier 2 is individually locked when moved forwardly to the writing position and automatically released and retracted when another rod 3 is moved forwardly. Markings 12, Fig. 5, disposed diametrically opposite a particular lead carrier indicate the nature of the lead, e.g. colour.
