Abstract
1,047,359. Valves. H. & H. BISHOP Ltd. Oct. 14, 1965, No. 43546/65. Heading F2V. A relief valve for a pit prop has a resilient valve member 34 housed in a recess in a bobbin 13. A support 39 prevents extrusion of the valve member into the seat opening 9. In closed position the bobbin engages over a spigot 8 on the seat and the valve member 34 is deformed into sealing engagement with a conical surface on this spigot. A surface 40 of the support and the end surface of the spigot which it engages are preferably etched so that sealing does not occur at these surfaces. The support has a projecting pin 37 with a head 38 which is inserted into the valve member 34 to retain the support. A spring retaining plate 20 engages notches in an adjustable sleeve 16 for varying the tension. The valve may also be opened by a lift rod connected to a stirrup 32. By pushing down the stirrup to engage notches 18 in screwed sleeve 16, the spring loading may be adjusted.
